Accessibility statement

Our commitment
This site presents an assistive device designed for blind and low-vision people, and the site itself is built with accessibility as a starting point. Our target is conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, so that visitors using a screen reader, a keyboard, magnification or other assistive technology get the same information as everyone else.
Measures taken
- Semantic HTML marks up heading levels, navigation and page regions, and a “Skip to main content” link is provided.
- Everything works with a keyboard alone, and focus is shown with a clear outline. The navigation bar fixed to the top of the screen never covers the focused element (WCAG 2.4.11).
- The navigation bar marks the section you are reading, so you can keep your place on a long page.
- Images have text alternatives; decorative graphics are hidden from screen readers.
- Every chart has an expandable table version, so no data depends on hovering with a mouse.
- The home-page animation can be paused at any time and stops when scrolled out of view. If your system is set to reduce motion, all animation is turned off.
- Four display modes are available (auto, light, dark and high contrast), and your choice is saved in this browser.
- The site is available in Traditional Chinese and English. On your first visit it follows your browser's language setting; you can switch at any time with the language link in the header, and your choice is saved in this browser. Every page declares its language, so screen readers use the right voice.
- Text and background colors meet Level AA contrast. Color is never the only way information is conveyed: charts also carry text labels and a legend.
- On a screen 320 CSS pixels wide, content reflows completely with no horizontal scrolling (WCAG 1.4.10).
- No sound plays automatically and there are no time limits. The flashing green in the home-page animation blinks once every 0.8 seconds over a small area, below the WCAG 2.3.1 limit of three flashes per second.
- Each voice prompt has a play button that uses the browser's built-in voice. It speaks only when you press it and can be stopped at any time.
- When printed, all content and data tables are expanded and unneeded controls are hidden.
How we test
The site is checked automatically with the following tools. The most recent evaluation was on October 9, 2026.
- axe-core (WCAG 2.0 to 2.2 A and AA, plus best-practice rules), run through Playwright in light and dark desktop views, high contrast, a 768-pixel tablet, 390- and 320-pixel phones, reduced motion and both languages, together with a check that the navigation bar never covers the focused element.
- Lighthouse: performance, accessibility, best practices and search engine optimization.
- html-validate: HTML syntax and structure.
- A keyboard walk-through confirming that every interactive element can be focused and shows a clear focus outline.
Automated tools find only some accessibility problems, so we treat the limits listed below as priorities for future work.
Known limits
- The site has not yet been tested in use by screen-reader users (for example with VoiceOver or NVDA).
- The pedestrian-signal animation on the home page is illustrative. Screen readers announce its text description rather than describing each frame.
- The enclosure images are computer renders of the model. They have text descriptions, but fine details of the shape are hard to convey fully in words.
- The device speaks Mandarin, so the play buttons use your browser's built-in Mandarin voice, which sounds different from the device's recorded prompts. If your browser has no Mandarin voice, playback is unavailable. With a screen reader running, the playback may overlap with speech.
- The English pages are translated from the Traditional Chinese original. If the two differ, the Chinese version is authoritative.
Compatibility
The site is designed for current versions of Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox, and relies on HTML, CSS and JavaScript. With JavaScript turned off, all content can still be read; only the animation and the filter stop working.
